Writing about my time with the lovely Gwen made me curious about her life after we parted, so I mailed an old friend from those days on Facebook to see if she knew what happened to her.
I got a reply from her last night, and Gwen is alive and well, and in a nursing home near Scarborough, and, at 98, is still getting around OK. Pauline had seen her at Christmas, and writes regularly. Pauline's mum and Gwen were really close back in the day, and Pauline still calls her 'auntie Gwen'. Nice to know, but I don't think I should get in touch, that could be a step too far!
